Tokyu Stay Hakata

Tokyu Stay Hakata is the Hakata outpost of Tokyu Hotels' long-stay sub-brand, built around one signature detail: a drum-style washer-dryer in every single room, laundry detergent included at check-in. Opened in 2018 in Hakataeki-minami, a quiet residential block a seven-minute walk south of the Chikushi Exit, the location trades the noise of the station plaza for noticeably better sleep quality without giving up Shinkansen access. Reviews across 10,000+ guests on Agoda and Booking converge on three themes: the laundry convenience, the clever compact layouts that make 18 m² feel livable, and the directness to Fukuoka Airport via the Kuko subway line in roughly fifteen minutes. On stays of three nights or more — the hotel's intended use case — the in-room kitchen equipment (microwave in all rooms, induction stove in Residential and Deluxe types) and the on-site Near Equal restaurant for breakfast make self-catering a practical option.

Getting there

How to reach the hotel

Practical access routes from the points international travelers actually arrive at — air, train, bus, and indoor walkway.

From Fukuoka Airport (FUK)
Take the Kuko Subway Line from the airport to Hakata Station — two stops, about 5 minutes, ¥260. Exit via the Chikushi Exit (south side of the station) and walk 7 minutes south through the Hakataeki-minami block. Total door-to-door is roughly 15 minutes. A direct taxi from FUK costs around ¥1,500 and takes 15 minutes without traffic; the subway is reliably faster during peak hours.
From JR Hakata Station (Shinkansen)
Follow signs to the Chikushi Exit (south exit, Shinkansen side). The hotel is a 7-minute walk due south through the Hakataeki-minami residential block. There is no underground passage — the walk is outdoor but flat, and the neighborhood is quiet compared to the Hakata-guchi side.
From Hakata Bus Terminal (airport limousine)
The FUK international terminal limousine bus stops at Hakata Bus Terminal on the Hakata-guchi (west) side. From there the hotel is about a 12-minute walk, or a short taxi. For international arrivals, the subway from domestic terminal is faster; from international terminal, add one stop.
From Canal City Hakata or Nakasu (evening return)
Canal City is about 15 minutes on foot via the Sumiyoshi-dori road. From the Nakasu yatai strip, a taxi is the practical call after midnight — ¥800–¥1,000. The 24h front desk means no arrival curfew.
Room advice

How to choose your room

Editorial recommendations drawn from aggregated guest reports — the trade-offs that aren't visible on the booking page.

  1. 01
Book a Residential Double or Deluxe Twin if you plan to cook or stay 4+ nights

Standard doubles at 18 m² are functional for short visits, but the Residential and Deluxe room types add an induction stove, sink, refrigerator, and cookware — the equipment that makes Tokyu Stay's long-stay model actually work. The ¥1,000–¥3,000 price gap per night disappears quickly when you are not buying combini dinners.

  2. 02
Read the eco-cleaning policy before booking

Stays under 7 nights receive towel exchange and garbage removal only — no full room clean. For a 3-night trip this is fine; for a week this is worth knowing in advance. Guests who want daily housekeeping will find it a friction point, even if it is an environmentally consistent policy across the Tokyu Stay brand.

  3. 03
Use the in-room washer in the evening, not at check-in

Laundry detergent is free at check-in, but the washer-dryer cycle on a Japanese drum unit runs about 90 minutes. Starting a load at 22:00 means clean clothes by midnight — the routine that makes the feature genuinely useful for a multi-city Kyushu itinerary where you do not want to carry a week of clothing.

  4. 04
Expect the breakfast menu to repeat on stays of 5+ nights

Near Equal's Japanese-Western buffet is well-reviewed for quality, but the rotation is slow. Long-stay guests note palate fatigue after four or five mornings. The surrounding block has a Lawson within 2 minutes and a supermarket at Yodobashi Camera (5 min) for self-catering variety.

Frequently asked

What travelers ask about Tokyu Stay Hakata

  • Is the hotel noisy being near Hakata Station? +

No — because it is located a 7-minute walk south of the station in the Hakataeki-minami residential block, travelers note it offers significantly better sleep quality and less street noise than properties right on the station plaza.

    Source: booking.com
  • Are laundry facilities shared with other guests? +

No — each individual guest room is equipped with its own private drum-style washer-dryer unit, which is highly praised by guests packing light for long trips.

  • Is the Hakataeki-minami area safe at night? +

Yes — Hakataeki-minami is a quiet residential-commercial block that sees significantly less foot traffic than the station plaza or the Hakata-guchi side. Fukuoka is one of Japan's safest large cities. The neighborhood is calm and well-lit; a Yodobashi Camera and Lopia supermarket are 5 minutes away for late-evening convenience.

  • Is Tokyu Stay Hakata suitable for families with children? +

The in-room washer-dryer, microwave, and deep soaking tub in every room make this property genuinely comfortable for families on multi-night stays — the ability to self-cater removes meal-planning stress. Residential and Deluxe rooms add a full induction stove and cookware. No dedicated children's facility is listed.

  • Is breakfast at Tokyu Stay Hakata worth it? +

The Near Equal Japanese-Western buffet (07:00–10:30) is well-reviewed for quality. Guests on stays of five or more nights note the menu rotation is slow, so long-stay guests often self-cater mid-stay and use the buffet as a first-and-last-morning bookend. The Lopia supermarket (5-min walk) and a Lawson (2-min walk) cover self-catering needs.

  • Does Tokyu Stay Hakata have a public bath or onsen? +

No public communal bath is listed for this property. All rooms include a deep soaking tub (individual in-room), which is a genuine advantage for guests who want to soak without needing a shared facility.

  • Can I pay with Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay at Tokyu Stay Hakata? +

UnionPay is listed as an accepted payment method. Alipay and WeChat Pay are not listed in the property amenities — confirm directly with the hotel before arrival if these are required.

  • Can I store luggage before check-in or after check-out at Tokyu Stay Hakata? +

Yes — luggage hold is available pre-check-in and post-check-out. The 24-hour front desk manages requests.
