Privacy policy
What we collect, what we don't, and what our affiliate partners do when you click through to a booking site.
Last updated: May 2026
- We use a cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics service to count visits in aggregate. We do not set tracking cookies of our own.
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or accounts. You can read this site without signing in.
- When you click a link to a booking partner (Booking.com, Agoda, etc.), that partner may set its own cookies to attribute the booking back to us. Their privacy policies apply once you leave this site.
- We do not sell data. We do not run retargeting ads.
Who we are
Fukuoka Stays is an independent editorial guide to hotels in Fukuoka, Japan, operated by a Japan-based travel editor. See the About page for editorial standards and the contact page for how to reach us.
This policy explains what data is collected when you visit fukuokastays.com (the "Site") and how we handle it.
What we collect ourselves
We collect a small amount of anonymous, aggregate information so we can see what content is read and improve the Site.
- Page views — which URLs were loaded, in what country, on what device class (mobile / desktop), and from what referrer (e.g. a search engine). This data is aggregated and does not identify you.
- Approximate region — derived from your IP address at the time of the request. We do not store your IP address.
- Server logs — our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) keeps short-lived request logs for security and reliability. These are managed by Cloudflare under their own policies.
We do not collect:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or login credentials — there is no account system.
- Payment information — we are not a booking engine and never handle your reservation.
- Precise location data.
- Behavioral profiles for advertising.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics product. It does not use client-side state to track you across visits and does not build a profile of individual users. It tells us things like "this page received X visits this week from country Y" — nothing more.
If we ever add a second analytics provider, we will update this section before doing so and disclose what it tracks.
Affiliate links and partner tracking
Many of the outbound links on this Site — particularly "Check rates on Booking.com" or "Compare on Agoda" buttons on hotel pages — are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a booking with that partner, we receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.
These links work by passing a partner identifier to the booking partner (in the URL) so the partner can attribute the booking. The booking partner then sets its own cookies in your browser to remember that attribution for a window of time (typically 24 hours to 30 days, depending on the partner's program).
Once you click an outbound link, you are on the booking partner's site, and their privacy policy — not ours — governs what data is collected. Partners we currently link to, or plan to link to as affiliate programs are approved, include:
- Booking.com — privacy policy
- Agoda — privacy policy
- Expedia — privacy policy
- Trip.com — privacy policy
- Tripadvisor — privacy policy
- Klook — privacy policy
- 楽天トラベル (Rakuten Travel) — privacy policy
Affiliate relationships are administered through consolidation networks including CJ Affiliate, Awin, and FlexOffers. These networks set their own attribution cookies on the partner's domain (not on this Site) to track conversions.
If you do not wish to be tracked by a booking partner, you can: (a) not click the outbound link and instead visit the partner's site directly, (b) use your browser's private / incognito mode, or (c) clear cookies after clicking through.
Other third-party services
From time to time we embed publicly available information from third parties (for example, linking to a Google Maps location). Loading those third-party resources may cause those services to receive your request information under their own terms.
We do not embed social-media tracking pixels (Facebook, X, etc.) and we do not run programmatic advertising.
Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you visit the Site from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the legal bases on which we process the limited data described above are:
- Legitimate interest — for cookieless aggregate analytics, server logs, and security. We have assessed that this processing has minimal impact on you and is necessary to operate the Site.
- Consent — for any future feature that would require it (e.g. email signup). We do not currently run such features.
You have the right to request information about, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. Because we do not store identifying data ourselves, in practice these requests usually result in us confirming that we hold no such data on you. Send requests to the address on the contact page.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. If you are a California resident and wish to make a data request, please use the contact address.
Children
The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided information through this Site (which would be unusual since we have no forms or accounts), please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be summarized at the top of the page for a period after the change.

Questions about this privacy policy, or requests about data, should go to the address on the contact page.
